A kansa wand, a gua sha and a jade roller are all manual facial massage tools used with a face oil. A kansa wand is a domed bronze tool from Ayurvedic tradition, used in small circles for a warm, rhythmic massage. A gua sha is a flat stone used in long strokes along the jaw and cheekbones. A jade roller is a stone roller used for a quick, cool roll, often in the morning.

Which should you choose?
- Choose a kansa wand if you want a slow evening ritual with a face oil.
- Choose a gua sha if you like firmer sculpting strokes along the jaw and cheekbones.
- Choose a jade roller if you want a quick, cooling roll in the morning.
How to use a kansa wand
Apply 3 to 4 drops of a face oil, such as Varnya Drops Kumkumadi Oil, to clean skin so the wand glides. Then work through four movements:
- Forehead: from the centre, roll upward toward the hairline.
- Under the eyes: gentle outward motions toward the temples.
- Jawline: from the chin up toward the earlobes, with firm but gentle pressure.
- Neck: from below the chin, roll down toward the collarbone.
Keep going for 5 to 10 minutes in all, then let the oil absorb.
Caring for a kansa wand
Wipe the wand with a soft cloth after each use. Kansa can turn grey with use; wipe it gently with a soft cloth. Store it somewhere cool and dry, and avoid soaking it in water.
The H-Mantra Kansa Wand is handcrafted from kansa metal with a rosewood handle. It comes on its own (£56), with Varnya Drops in The Gold Edit (£160), or in The Evening Trio (£230).
Frequently asked questions
Do I need oil to use a kansa wand?
Yes. A few drops of face oil let the wand glide without dragging the skin. 3 to 4 drops of kumkumadi oil is plenty.
How long should I use a kansa wand for?
5 to 10 minutes is enough. Work in upward and outward strokes, then let the oil absorb.
Why does my kansa wand turn grey?
Kansa is a metal, and it can darken or leave a faint grey mark with use. Wipe the wand gently with a soft cloth after each use.
Which facial tool is best for beginners?
A kansa wand is simple to use because the rounded head is forgiving: small circles and upward strokes with a face oil. A jade roller is the quickest option if you only have a minute.
